Completed in 2025, this renovation reimagines the main floor of an existing family home, improving flow, functionality and overall cohesion within the constraints of the original footprint. The design responds to the evolving needs of the homeowners, creating a more connected and highly functional environment for everyday living.
A primary challenge was reorganizing the kitchen and adjacent living spaces to improve circulation and strengthen the relationship between zones without extensive structural changes. This was resolved through a reconfigured layout anchored by a central island, with improved sightlines between the kitchen, dining and family room allowing the spaces to function as a cohesive whole.
Material continuity plays a central role, with medium-tone oak flooring, soft neutral wall colours, bronze accents and complementary millwork creating a unified backdrop. Durable quartz surfaces and integrated storage support long term performance. Sustainability considerations include low VOC finishes, energy efficient lighting and long lasting materials. The family room off the kitchen was updated to reflect a shift in use, transitioning from a casual rec space into a more refined and comfortable lounge. A cast concrete gas fireplace surround, wall sconces from Lightmaker Studio and subtle wall detailing introduce structure and visual interest while maintaining a calm, cohesive expression.
